Bow Tutorial
Vector 	Graphic 1. Create a new image, 400x400 pixels, with a transparent background. Select whatever colour you want your bow to be as a foreground colour. Choose the Shape tool, make the Shape Type a circle, Style filled, Line Width 1 and tick both the Create as Vector and Antialias boxes. Draw a circle in the centre of your canvas.
Skewed             Rectangle 2. Hold down the CTRL button and click on the top right hand square. A four pointed arrow with a little image of a "roof-shaped" rectangle should appear. Drag the square down until about halfway between it's starting position & the middle square. Let go of the CTRL button.
3. Click on the middle square on the right hand side. A two pointed arrow with a little image of a rectangle should appear. Drag the square across about a third of the way across the rectangle.

Layer Palette 4. Press CTRL+C to copy the shape. Go to your Layer Palette - you should see Layer 1 as a normal raster layer and Layer 2 as a vector layer. Hide layer 2 and select layer 1.
Shaded Bow 5. Now on layer 1, press CTRL+E to paste the shape as a new selection. Press SHIFT+CTRL+F to de-float the selection. Keep the shape selected. Create 3 new layers - name layer 3 "Shadow", layer 4 "Detail and layer 5 "Cutout". Highlight the layer "Cutout". Go to Image/Effects/Cutout... - make the Shadow Color Black, Opacity 100, Blur 60, Vertical 4 and Horizontal 8. Apply the cutout.
Detail 	with the line tool 6. Go to the layer named "Detail". Uses the "Eyedropper" tool, select a darker shade of your original colour to be your new foreground colour. Select the Line tool. Make Type Freehand Line, Style Stroked, Width 2, Antialias checked and the remaining 2 boxes unchecked. On the second tab of the Tool Options palette, make sure that Curve Tracking is set to 1 and Cap is on the second option. Draw 2 lines on your shape as shown in the adjacent image.
Merged Layers 7. Select the Selection tool and click anywhere within the image to select the two lines you have just drawn. Press SHIFT+CTRL+F to defloat the selection. Highlight the layer named "Shadow" and go to Image/Effects/Drop Shadow.... Make the Color black, Opacity 100, Blur 20, Vertical and Horizontal both 2. Apply the drop shadow. Press CTRL+D to de-select the shadow. Go to Layers/Merge/Merge Visible to merge your four Raster layers.
Mirror 	Images 8. Press CTRL+C to copy your image, CTRL+L to paste as a new layer and CTRL+M to mirror it. Maneuver the second shape into position opposite your first.
Flood Filled 	Centre 9. Create three new layers. Name layer 4 "Shadow", Layer 5 "Middle" and layer 6 "Cutout". Highlight the layer named "Middle". Choose the Selection tool. Make Selection Type Rounded Rectangle, Feather 0 and Antialias checked. Draw a rectangular selection in the centre of your two shapes. Flood Fill the selection with your original colour.
Bow Middle 10. Highlight the layer named "Cutout". Go to Image/Effects/Cutout... and apply the following settings - Shadow Color Black, Opacity 80, Blur 20, Vertical and Horizontal both 0. Apply the cutout. Highlight the layer named "Shadow". Go to Selections/Modify/Contract... and contract the selection by one pixel. Finally, go to Image/Effects/Drop Shadow.... Make the Color black, Opacity 80, Blur 20, Vertical and Horizontal both 0. Apply the drop Shadow. Press CTRL+D to de-select the selection.
Layer 	Palette 11. Go to Layers/Merge/Merge Visible to merge all your layers. Create two new layers and drag them below the merged layer. Name the one at the very bottom "ribbon" and the one in the middle "Cutout". Highlight the one named "Ribbon".
Triangular             Selection 12. Choose the Line Tool. Keep the Style on Freehand, but change the width to 20. On the second tab, change Cap to the first option. On your image, draw 2 free ribbons falling down from the centre of the bow. Next, choose the Freehand Selection (or Lasso) tool and make a small triangular selection in the bottom of one of the ribbons. Delete the selection. Repeat on the second ribbon.
13. Press CTRL+A to select the whole image, then click anywhere within the canvas to select the ribbons. Press SHIFT+CTRL+F to de-float the selection. Highlight the layer named "Cutout" and apply the same cutout that you used for the middle of the ribbon. Press CTRL+D to de-select the ribbons.
Your Bow is complete!
