If you have completed my Planet Tutorial, you'll notice that this tutorial is very similar. There are many different ways to make Easter Eggs using Paint Shop Pro (see the links at the bottom of the page), and I hope you can find this technique useful! In this tutorial, I will be using my Pastel Rainbow Gradient which you can download here. Just unzip it to your gradient folder within the Paint Shop Pro directory. Alternativly, you can use one of your own gradients.
|
1. Create a New Image, 400x400
pixels with a transparent background. |
2. Flood Fill the image with black. |
3. Set your foreground colour to white. Click on the Preset Shape tool. In the Tool Options Palette use the settings as shown. It is very important that Create as Vector is ticked. |
4. On your canvas, position the cursor in about the centre & draw an almost circular ellipse. |
5. Select the Vector Object Selection Tool. Holding down the CTRL button, place your cursor on the top left little square surrounding the vector ellipse. Drag your cursor inwards until the ellipse becomes a nice egg shape. |
6. On the Layers Palette, right click on your vector layer and choose Convert to Raster. |
7. Click on the Seletion Tool. In the Tool Options palette, make Selection Type Rectangle, Feather 0 and Antialias ticked. Draw a rectangle around your egg, then click anywhere within that rectangle - your egg will now be selected. You may want to save this selection now - go to Selections/Save to Alpha Channel And press OK, then OK again. |
8. In the Layers Palette, right click on one of the layers and choose Merge/Merge Visible
|
9.
Go to Selections/Modify/Expand and expand the selection by 2 pixels. Save the newly expanded selection to the Alpha Channel as well.
|
10.
Go to Image/Deformations/Wind. Set the Strength to 20 and the Direction is entirely up to you - I am using left for this tutorial. Once you have applied the wind effect, your egg may look a little "banded" with colour. To fix this, go to Image/Blur/Gaussian Blur and apply a blur of 1 to 2.
|
11.
Go to Selections/Invert, then press DELETE on your keyboard. Go to Selections/Invert again to reselect your egg. |
12. After all that, we are finally ready to decorate our egg! Create a new raster layer . In the Layer Palette, set the Layer Blend Mode to Multiply on your new layer. |
13. For now, we are going to just decorate it with a plain & simple linear gradient. Once you get the hang of it, I'm sure you will find many exciting ways to decorate your eggs. Click on the Flood Fill Tool. In the Tool Options palette, choose Linear Gradient from the drop-down menu. Click on the second tab in the Tool Options palette. Choose the Pastel-Rainbow gradient, or whatever gradient you wish to use on your egg. You will notice that I set Repeat to 2 - this will just make more stripes on the egg. Flood fill your egg. |
14. Your egg should now look something like this.
|
15. Go to Image/Deformations/Warp. Use the settings as shown - you may want to play with the sliders a little depending on your image.
|
16. Create a new raster layer . |
17. Click on the Airbrush Tool. Use the settings as shown.
|
18. Draw a curved line on your egg - this will be your highlight. Go to Image/Blur/Gaussian Blur and set the radius to between 2 and 5.
|
